Music Appreciation With a potential membership of ten or more this group meets at Malcolm Smalley's house on the third Thursday afternoon of the month from 2-4 pm. The two hours together is an enjoyable social time, and a wide range of music is listened to and discussed. It is always enjoyable to listen to good music in good company. None of us are "experts" or "highbrow" but work together to enjoy and expand our appreciation of music.
Just a few of us as it was a winter's day Our numbers have more than doubled over the last twelve months. Most members bring a record to play, and we then discuss it and look up facts in music dictionaries and, as someone said, “It is so much more enjoyable listening to music in the company of other people.” We’ve had two outstanding meetings recently. On 15th May, Michael Wiles, a former teacher at Stamford Bridge School, gave an illustrated talk on Elgar, guiding us with a handout that illustrated what we should listen for in the music. Eileen Stead, one of our company, and for many years a professional oboist with the BBC Philharmonic orchestra, told us about her romantic meeting with and marriage to the late Reginald Stead, the leader of the Orchestra, and their exciting concert tours.
If anyone would like to join us please let me know. Co-ordinator: Malcolm Smalley Page updated 9 October 2008 ©2008 Pocklington & District U3A
