Philosophy

This has been a very successful group, discussing mighty matters including Euthanasia, Animal Rights, Capital Punishment to stimulate our thinking and discussion. All sessions were both thought provoking and convivial.

Early Programme for 2009:

Education, Parents, Children & the State" - six sessions led by Ian Gregory. Topics to be explored and discussed are Faith Schools, Sex Education, Private Schooling, Home Education, & the justification of Compulsory Schooling. There will be discussion about appropriateness (or not) of talk about parental rights, their scope and limits and whether children have rights, the kinds of rights they might have, on what grounds one can talk about the rights of a child, and our understanding of the role the State might play (and why) in the matter of educational provision. 

Meetings are on Tuesday mornings, 10.00-12.00, 20th January - Subject 5: Home Education and 3rd February - subject 6: Compulsory Education. This Course is likely to be fully subscribed.  Please contact Malcolm Smalley to enquire about membership and venue.
