May Open Meeting

Henry Farrar provides a talk titled 'The Golden Age of Film' which describes the history of the use of film in the BBC. Henry was a BBC film cameraman and director of photography based at Ealing Film Studios until he retired in 1989 when digital cameras took over the work and shares his experience when until the late 1980s, film was widely used by the BBC. For most of that period, electronic images could not be recorded, so film was vital for recording live performances and more importantly, creating new programmes.
